Content to Be Me

This week’s chapter in Calm My Anxious Heart is entitled “Content To Be Me” and focuses on being content with how God created me! I am His workmanship and I need to praise Him for that.

The author, Linda Dillow, talks about the deadly disease of comparsion and how wrong that is. She quoted 2 Corinthians 10:12 from The Living Bible where it states that we are “stupid” for comparing ourselves to others. I guess I have been guilty of being stupid from time to time as I compare how other people look, live, the clothes they wear, etc. And as a homeschooler, who hasn’t compared how other moms teach their children? I don’t do this now because I’m very comfortable with how I homeschool but I know I did it a lot when I first started out. I would hear of a certain book or curriculum and wonder if that was better than what I was using. Oh what a trap that can be!! I always try to tell new homeschoolers to find what they (and their children) like and stick with it. There’s always going to be some new fad, some new product but if what you are using works, then stay with it.

God wants us to be content with who we are. This is from the book: “According to Ephesians 2:10, you and I ‘are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.’ When I am not pleased with the talents, gifts and abilities God gave me I remind myself that He is the Blessed Controller of all things (1 Timothy 6:15). If I believe this, I also must believe that God is the Blessed Controller of my ‘all things’. My appearance. My personality. My gifts and talents. In my heart of hearts I long to please God, and it pleases Him when I am content with how He created me.”

There’s more to this chapter but my online time is over for now so I’ll write more later, Lord willing. I pray that you all have a wonderful afternoon and remember that you are God’s workmanship!!

What say you?
