I like the idea of Bible journaling…only not in my Bible. I do write in my Bible (it’s a wide margin) and underline but I don’t want to do art work in it. For the longest time I’ve kept a commonplace book; basically just a place to write down quotes that I have come across and want to keep. Last year I started a prayer journal. This isn’t a journal of prayer and praises (I have another for that) but a journal of quotes, Scripture, articles, etc., all having to do with prayer.
I am new to the world of mixed media but I thought my prayer journal would be the perfect place to try it.
I also tried my hand at mail art. I’ve done some before but mainly I use washi or just create an envelope out of scrapbook paper or old calendars. Here’s a recent creation:
I had fun putting it together. The images are from an old calendar and then I used some stamps that I had. I like the way it turned out!
And finally a birthday card and envelope that is heading out today:
A few weeks ago it was rainy every day so I was in a card-making mode. It feels good to have a supply on hand for whatever occasion I need. I do realize, though, looking at these that I need to have some that aren’t quite so girly!
My first attempt at creating with mixed media. Definitely out of my comfort zone but now I want to do more. These are postcards and I like how they turned out!
My friend, Pam, over at Lost Art, has some cute pictures of envelopes she made. I was inspired a few years ago to make my own and have really enjoyed it. I use scrapbook paper (if using regular and not two-sided, then you’ll need to make a liner), and old calendars. I use envelope templates that I purchased from Paper Source. Although there are free ones available online, I like these plastic ones. They have faired well through many, many uses.
Here’s some that I’ve made. I hope you will try this easy craft. It’s a nice way to brighten someone’s day when they receive this in their mailbox!
I am happy to report that I have now lost 10.5 pounds…and yes, that .5 is very important!! I am learning to eat healthy and to eat good portions. I am learning to exercise each day. Right now I am doing that by walking but I’m thinking about joining a local gym. I would love to swim and do water aerobics and I would also like to do some strength training.
The past three weeks have been so pleasant as far as the weather goes. Temperatures in the 70’s during the day, 50’s at night, and low humidity. We haven’t had to run the a/c much this September!
On September 9, we had my mom’s memorial service in NJ. It was a bittersweet time but it turned out really lovely. Here’s a picture of me and my siblings after the service:
My brother read a psalm and Michael sang “Amazing Grace” and was able to share the gospel with those that attended. Afterward, just our family went out to eat together. Then Michael and I had to drive back to VA.
I know everyone says this all the time but it is hard to believe that September is almost over. Seriously, this month went by so fast. The leaves on some trees are just starting to change and I’m looking forward to October when they will be in all their glory! Our hummingbirds are still coming to the feeders but less and less frequently. I think they will be moving on soon.
I am enjoying swapping post cards and other items over on swap-bot.com. I will post about it soon!!
I had decided to put all my vacation pictures onto a separate page but I messed something up and they all disappeared so I will have to try again…but not this week!
I am on the “craft team” for our upcoming VBS and we have been busy preparing all the crafts. This week we have two prep days plus all the stuff I’m doing at home. I am taking this material:
and cutting it into these squares–ALL the material!!
Thankfully I have a rotary cutter and the material is thin so I can layer it. I have about another hours’ worth of cutting to do!!
Besides the two VBS prep meetings, I am feeding the homeless tomorrow and going to our church’s baptism in the evening. Wednesday I’m getting my hair cut and prep meeting that evening. Thursday during the day I am free and will probably do chores but Thursday night we have a deacon’s meeting. Friday the exterminator is coming over because I keep seeing ants in my kitchen and Friday night I’m going out to dinner with a friend. Whew!
My weeks are not normally like that; it just happened that everything fell into place this week! I’m thankful that my days and weeks are usually much quieter.
I have been having trouble with my eyes not focusing well for close-up reading when I first wake up. I like to do my devotions in the morning and it has been very hard to do that. This morning I started listening to John MacArthur’s sermon series on Philippians on my iPhone. I think this solution will work very well!
My girlfriend, Trish, and I signed up to go The Gospel Coalition’s 2012 Women’s Conference. We’re so excited. I’ll be able to fly down using the vouchers I got when our flight was twice-bumped coming back from my sister’s in NV. Can you imagine a whole weekend with all those wonderful speakers? I know the Lord will have a lot in store for me!
That’s about all from here. It has been thundering for about two hours now but no rain. I know a lot of the country is in a similar situation. We need relief from this heat and help for our plants! I hope you all are able to stay cool wherever you are!
